Jeff Wasserman began practicing law over 50 years ago and is proud to be an Accredited Collaborative Professional with the Florida Academy of Collaborative Professionals (FACP). He is currently Of Counsel to Shapiro, Blasi, Wasserman & Hermann, P.A. practicing collaborative law with the firm’s Family Law Group. Mr. Wasserman is a peacemaker, keeping his family law clients out of court in resolving their divorces.
The Collaborative Law Process is a client driven process based on interest based negotiations. The Process uses the team approach with both clients being represented by independent counsel, a Neutral Facilitator and a Neutral Financial Professional, all who assist the clients to achieve a resolution without court intervention. The Collaborative professionals focus on the day after the final judgment is entered in dealing with the family. The Process is designed to provide families with the ability to move beyond the divorce in a positive relationship. The goals of the clients take precedence over the law, which provides the clients with the ability to resolve their issues in a way that makes the most sense for them rather than following a more rigid legal based approach. In addition to divorces, Mr. Wasserman also provides client services in negotiating and drafting Premarital, Post Nuptial and Cohabitation Agreements.
As a leader in this emerging area of law, Mr. Wasserman is an Accredited Collaborative Law Professional under FACP Standards, is an emeritus Director on the FACP Board of Directors, co-chairs the Governance Committee and is an active member of several other committees. He was directly involved with the writing of the Standards and Ethics adopted by the FACP. Mr. Wasserman is also a member and on the Honor Roll of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP) and serves on several committees of that organization. He is on the Board of the South Palm Beach County Collaborative Law Group (SPBCCLG-Choose Collaborative) in Boca Raton; a member of the Collaborative Family Law Professionals of South Florida (CFLPSF) in Broward County, serving as a mentor; a member of the Collaborative Family Law Institute (CFLI) in Miami-Dade County; and the Collaborative Professional of Southwest Florida (Naples and Ft. Myers). Mr. Wasserman is a trainer in Collaborative Law; regularly speaks on Collaborative Law topics and writes articles on Collaborative Law for publication.
Mr. Wasserman is a Fellow in the International Academy of Family Lawyers (IAFL), serving on its Dispute Resolution Committee and serves as a member of the IACP Hague Task Force where he tries to merge Collaborative with the Hague Convention. He has firsthand experience and knowledge of other areas of law, and can refer his clients to members of the Firm who specialize in those areas, such as real estate, estate planning and probate, corporate law, employment law and tort law. This enhances his ability to provide a full array of legal services for his clients.
Mr. Wasserman is AV Preeminent rated by Martindale-Hubbell and has consistently been listed on the Florida Super Lawyers “Top Lawyers” list as well as the South Florida Legal Guide’s “Top Lawyer” list in the family law area. And he is a veteran of the Vietnam War, honorably discharged in 1970.
